The Small Insects

by Vlad Levickij
…The road ceased to interest him, and he began to close his eyes and to loll his head against the cushions.

The next moment, Nikolai Komarov appeared at home. A large, spacious room with a stylish interior in exquisite dark tones, a massive table with thick legs in Baroque style, purple, heavy draped curtains, a sofa in the same Baroque and a slender chandelier in a bit later style – Rococo.
Despite the fact that Nikolai was a scientist, a really busy person, he never dropped out of the social context: he loved politics and public events. That’s why almost half of the walls of his fashionable apartments held a huge plasma TV with 879 channels. Nikokai decided to turn on the TV, to... hmm, it just happend – in a dream everything is irrational, isn’t it? A “skin and bones” man, appeared on the TV screen and read the text with a trembling voice: "Let us bring you to mind, on this Monday morning scientists discovered tiny radioactive insects, treating people merely as food. Of the group of pioneers only one researcher managed to escape. During the four days of their “existence”, the population has increased exponentially. The Earth suffers from the invasion of the small murderers. All attempts by the Army, Navy, Air Forces, Marine Corps and Coast Guard forces to eliminate troublemakers were to no avail".
Nikolai was excited a little, with his heart pounding, waiting for death from being eaten by insects. But here’s what came up to Nikolai’s mind – what if we talk to them, what if they’ll hear our good intentions? Sometimes it helps within people, are insects worse? And who can talk heart to heart best? That’s right, the priest! Run to father Jerome in the church of St. Saviour, until it’s too late!
After a short conversation, Father Jerome and Nikolai decided to risk – they must speak to the enemies. The road to the Queen of insects was long, as she substantiated her residence in the laboratory in Germany, where the first representatives of a previously unknown species were discovered. The result, however, was worth it – 15 hours of negotiations persuaded the Queen that killing people is the biggest sin, that the most important in each  life – the love to the Lord. Actually, that way everything was resolved – the insects Queen with a multi-million army of her patrials set off in search of God, diving straight into the sky, right in the space...
After all these events Nikolai Komarov and Father Jerome appears on a stage before thousands of people who survived after the invasion of the aggressors. They expect their rewards – Father Jerome for his tear-jerking conversation, and Nicholai – for the very idea of a “heartwarming” talk. Once again he is worried, but this excitement is a pleasant one – it is about putting on a chocolate medal for the salvation of mankind, so his stands tall and proud. The President of the world asks Nikolaj to bend his neck to be awarded with the medal, whe suddenly Nikolai…
…Turns out in the back seat of BMW. The driver says: "Well, it’s good you’ve woken up, we’ve just arrived" And then Nikolai understood – it’s was only a dream, no more than flight of fancy, there aren’t any insects! However, didn’t he understood another thing: "Where are we?", asked driver Nikolai. The driver replied: "Are you kidding me? We’re at the church of St. Saviour, Sir!"...

Nikolai lost  consciousness.
