The Legend by Viktoria Petruk

And they saw the sunrise.

Long time ago, when days and nights existed, people of a big empire prayed to the Day for its light and energy and to the Night for its dreams and calmness. The Day and the Night were the gods of the world and everything in the sky belonged to them. One day the king of the empire wished to be equal to the gods – to own a star. The Night was so angry at him that she threw one to the ground. The shadow covered the entire planet and people have not seen the light of the sky from that time…
This legend has been known by people in a hamlet for hundreds of years.
They thought that it was just a fairy tale. However, one of the huntsmen of this hamlet truly believed in this story and his dream was to see the sun and other stars in the clear sky. In one cold day huntsmen during a hunt walked too far from the hamlet. The place was hard-known and their torches started to smoke and to die out. The huntsman realized that it was the end and remembered about his
dream thinking that even before the death he can’t fulfill it. Torches died out. Darkness and silence… But something was wrong. On the right huntsmen saw line of a light on the horizon. A flame? Little by little the outlines of objects were appearing. The light on the horizon were becoming wider and brighter. And they saw the sunrise.
