Volodymyr Ukrainets
When I was younger I had a dream: to visit as many countries as possible; to see places all around the world, that no one had seen before; to speak with people from primitive tribe somewhere in Africa and to drink a cup of tea in a settlement in the Andes; to cross the desert on a motorcycle and to sail across the Atlantic ocean; to subjugate some mountain measuring at least five thousand meters in height and to scuba dive in Pacific ocean; to watch the Brazil carnival and take photos of geyser eruption in Iceland; to see the northern lights through the window of the plane and to live for some time in the Antarctic expedition; to fish on the shores of the crystal pure river in taiga and to spend a week in the Death Valley… Have I made I at least one tenth of that? No.
During my studies at school, I dreamed of my ideal work, that it would be closely connected with travelling to exotic places and writing articles and reportages for magazines such as “National Geographic” or “Around the world”. It was hard for me to imagine better and more interesting job. Have I approached a bit to my dream? No.
When I got older I wanted to learn to play the piano and the electric guitar to repeat favorite parts from musical compositions. Have I learned to do that? No.
A few years later I became really fond of European cinematograph. I had a strong desire to be connected in any way with filmmaking. But I never did.
That’s why I want you not to waste your time and opportunities, do everything you can to achieve the desired goals and dreams, not to be afraid of obstacles and don’t pay much attention to the opinions of others, don’t be frighten of bold decisions and changes. Go purposefully to your dreams, don’t put off until later what you can do just here and now. Be open-hearted and hardworking. Do not throw around promises, but always fulfill those given.
Be honest and responsible, determined and courageous.
Good luck in all your undertakings!
Shine on you crazy diamond!
From your loving grandpa
