The Voice by Maria Ignatieva

“I’ve never seen anyone so beautiful.”

He smiled, his cheeks blushing.
“Really?”
“Why would I lie?”
He made a few steps further. Everyone was already far behind, but he didn’t mind. This is only for him anyway. He is the beautiful prince here, he is the one to save her.
“Where are you?”
“Very close.”
“It’s too dark here.”
“You won’t get lost, child. I’ll keep talking to you.”
He went on walking, keeping his hand on a cold stone wall. With no light getting through, the castle was a labyrinth of endless rooms and corridors. He’d already lost count of the turns he took. That was alright. The way back will be entirely different.
“You are very brave. I know it’s dark, but please, don’t leave. I’ve been waiting for you for so long.”
“I’ll save you,” he panted. “I’ll do whatever it takes. I’ve been ready to die for you from the moment I heard your voice.”
“I’ve seen a lot of beautiful things, but you, oh, you are my precious jewel. Say that you belong to me.”
“I belong to you.”
“Then come, come to me and be mine.”
The voice became softer as he approached. Just a few more steps, and he’ll be able to see her.
“I don’t think I’ve ever loved anyone the way I love you,” he said, opening the door. “It’s a bliss that you love me, too.”
“Love.” The dragon bared her teeth. “There is no such word in my tongue.”
