The World of Sounds by Julia Gordijchenko

Sophie sat quietly on the edge
of the chair and looked out the window, as stand parked cars on the roadside. green machine, red, yellow, again red. At the traffic lights one after another the colors change - red yellow green. the dark green foliage of the trees was staggered by a strong wind, a woman walked under the  red umbrella on the street, and a little girl in yellow boots quickly crossed the road.
Sophie giggled. was she alone who noticed these strange coincidences of colors on the street? she turned cheerfully to examine the room and find someone else here, but she was alone. her joy was replaced by anxiety. still a little bit and sobbed at Sophie's, but suddenly the door opened and Mom came in.
Sophie ran to her mother, tightly embraced her. She took her mother by the hand and pulled her to the window to show her little discovery. Her mother stood by the window, but did not understand what her daughter wanted to show. mother gently touched her daughter's cheeks, and a big tear fell on daughter`s hair.
«Soon the doctor will come and everything changes, my dear». The daughter looked inquiringly at her mother, but said nothing. She could not speak, because she was deaf from birth. The doctor came into the room carrying a device in his hands. Mom with understanding took her daughter by the hand and brought her to the doctor.
The doctor opened the box and gently took out the small headphones, and put them in the ears of the girl. Sophie did not resist, although she did not understand what was happening. so it was necessary, because here her mother, then everything is fine.
The doctor nodded to his mother, my mother trembled in her voice and turned to Sophia and said: "Daughter, I love you." Sophie shuddered, her eyes widened, her hands misted and she turned to face her mother. She first heard mother's voice! How sweet it was! Mother was talking without interruption, and  daughter listened to her smiling and crying. Mom's voice is the most pleasant sound! So much tenderness, love and care in it.
Mamma brought Sofia to the window, waved it, and the girl heard for the first time in her life the rumble of the street: the voices of shopkeepers in the shops, the signals of cars, the light-cell switch, the dog's barking, the creaking of the broken bicycle and the little rain-fall on the asphalt. Mom kept a close eye on her daughter and hugged her tightly.
