“You don’t always need
to protect me, Escarus! I’m not a child! To be fair enough, not a child at all, as I’m one of the best mages of the Kaaribbean Empire! For Creators’ sake, I’m 348 years old and I perfectly survived by myself until last year, when we met and you decided to ruin my life and reputation by repeating scenes of this shameful and awkward saving me of complete no-thing!” A mage seemed to be completely mad, after her partner rescued her from a simple arrow by, she still couldn’t believe someone can be that stupid, covering me with his own back. Escarus was older than her and much more experienced on the battle field. She can tell for sure, that he knows at least 100 ways to stop that pitty piece of wood! Then why would he do such a reckless thing? She was trying to understand that for an hour now along with curing his wound.
Escarus remained silent and extremely dull, he was frowning and to all of her words answered by simple nodding. He doesn’t look sorry or guilty, just tired after the battle and angry. Their relations were always tense and flaming, but still not more than a close partnership, even though even complete stranger by the look at them could tell they have some serious sexual tension and definitely not just friendly feelings. They probably know it themselves, but they get used to being alone and self-dependent over long years so much, that something always seems to be off and missing making them be together as a couple already.
“Are you going to tell me what a gargoyle has bitten you, that you lost your mind?” Looking him bleeding and bending with pain made her completely furious. She felt terribly worried and guilty of what happened.
At first, he just clenched his lips and frowned even more, but then he sighed and at last looked directly at her eyes. They were burning with something that can most closely be associated with madness.
“Oh, I’ll tell you what’s bitten me, but you’re not going to like it, as you perfectly ignored it for almost a year now! But that’s it, you got me bad! I freaking love you, Estalia! And yes, you’re right I’m a fool, that behaved completely irresponsible and crazy! But seeing this arrow going exactly at your heart made me lost all my mind, I couldn’t think of anything at the moment, the only thing I knew was to stop it. And yes, by any cost! What use of being the best mage with centuries of war experience, if you can’t even sleep anymore as your thoughts aren’t yours anymore and when it comes to a danger to you, I feel more human and weak than I ever was! You can shout all you want at me, but I’d do it again no matter what!” Mage seemed completely furious. She has never seen this always calm and low-key mage raising his voice like that and looking at her so openly and defiantly! Estalia doesn’t know what to say for the first time at her life, and she’s, as the opposite to the partner, usually lights up like a match.
The silence in a tent became louder than anything. She was just standing so close to him, looking at his obstinate eyes and thinking what to answer. How to tell, that she feels that way too, how to make him understand that she shouts just because she cares so much for him?
“What makes you think that you're dying can protect me or make me feel any better? Don’t you see that we were bitten by the same gargoyle?” Her usually clean and loud voice sounded very weak and quietly. She doesn’t know what to do or say next and that was very uncomfortable and awkward for her and that made her angry at herself, so she just closed her eyes very tight and go for a kiss. He’d never reject her that.
