Suffocation by Anna Liudva

“What a slut!”

Phrase followed by a slap in the face.
“I’m so tired of your behaviour that embarrasses me all the time!” – he was walking from one side to another, unable to calm down. “Don’t you want to explain yourself at least?” – he asked rather provocatively than calmer.
“I was going to, but your slap stopped me,” – she countered with a little smile.
“After awful things you’ve done, you still have the guts to call me out, bitch?” – his face became even redder than before. He was on the verge of explosion.
“I didn’t know that going out in a club is considered as an awful thing now”, – the indifferent voice of hers made things worse. She knew exactly what he was talking about but acted like stupid on purpose.
“I’m not talking about the club, – he didn’t notice her games, – but about hugging and kissing with every man while you’re a married woman!”
“I wasn’t kissing him”. – She was. It was funnier to make him a fool.
“Should I punch you one more time, so your memory becomes clearer?” – another slap didn’t allow her to answer.
“Should you just kill me, so everything becomes easier at all?” –  her hysteric laugh made him shrug a little.
“I’ll think about it”, – when he turned, she shaded a tear, but quickly removed it.
“How am I supposed to look at you after that?” –  he continued to nag her, like a seesaw. “How am I supposed to touch you, or kiss you, when all I can see is that peacock from the club? Should’ve kicked him harder, one punch is not enough”.
She liked his jealousy. She was enjoying it.
“If you didn’t leave me, maybe it wouldn’t happen, – she complained to him with big gestures, – but you’ve chosen your friends instead. Well, deal with it now”, – she looked away with crossed hands.
“It’s not my fault that you cannot make any friends with your stupid attitude towards everyone”, – now he just tries to hurt her, so she felt guilty. No need, she was already suffering. “Admit it, did you do this on purpose? You just trying to make me jealous, aren’t you?”
“You’re overthinking it. I was just bored”. – Another slap and she cannot fight him anymore. The truth is she knew what she was doing while he was watching her in the club. She knew that he will immediately go to her and beat her admirer. She loved her overprotective husband. Or maybe she persuaded herself that it was love.
“I want a divorce”, – her words sounded too loudly after a long pause.
He looked directly in her eyes.
“I want to leave you”, – she said with no emotions. She was drained. After all, you get tired after each game.
“How many times have you sang this song to me? – he pretended to count in his mind, chuckling. – You know you cannot do that. You are dependent on me. I won’t let you go. If I see you with another man, I’ll shoot him. I won’t leave you. I love you too much to do it”, – he hugged her and buried his face inside her shoulders. He thought he made up with her with these words. He was wrong.
“Nobody can protect me like you”, – she said indifferently, but he didn’t notice. She knew he was dead serious. She will never have a normal life alone, because he will always be near her, or at least watching her from behind.
Her last thought was “I cannot live without you”. Actually, it was “I suffocate because of you”, but she suppressed the latter with the first one.
