Ariel was in Love. L-O-V-E.
Such a sweet-sounding word, but, unfortunately, so hurtful for her right now. Surely, she has seen the prince only once, but he was the most stunning being she had ever seen. She cried out to her lady-in-waiting and her best friend, Bella, that was sitting beside her on her bed. “What should I do? I want to be with him and my father doesn’t even let me swim to the surface again.”
“Well, you know”, replied her friend, “They say that there is plenty of fish in the sea. How about we go to a ball your father is hosting today? I heard there will be some prince from the Pacific Ocean delegation. We could dance and flirt and take a break from all this heartbreak.”
Ariel smiled and wiped her eyes, “I think there’s still time to ask for lots of sweet ice being served.”
She hugged Belle, “Thank you, I think I really need a distraction right now.”
Belle hugged her back, “And I promise we can talk more about that prince of yours tomorrow when you are rested.”
That talk actually never happened, since on the next day, Ariel was absolutely enchanted with the Pacific Ocean Prince. “Have you seen him, Belle? I didn’t know someone so perfect could even exist”
“What about the human prince? Didn’t you say that he was the perfect one?”
“Oh, Belle, that was yesterday. And, what is more important, the Pacific Ocean Prince actually remembered me from the first time we met, unlike that human.”
Needless to say, Ariel’s father was delighted to hear about Ariel’s new infatuation.
And then there was a Southern Ocean Prince, a royal guard, the Indian Ocean Princess, and yet another Pacific Ocean Prince.
Ariel lived happily ever after, taking in many, many royal consorts. After all, a ruling Queen may indulge herself so much as she wishes to.
