The Blind by Solomiya Andrusiv

Two boys were sitting on the rooftop
and peering into the predawn sky. One of them was sure that it's worth having been awake all night or getting up earlier than the sun. He thought they're beautiful, all these tiny rose feathers of clouds, the horizon slightly gilded by the rising sun, the pale shadow of the outgoing moon, clouds of breath that escape from the mouth and the huge lilac chasm above them. The other thought nothing about it.
He was glad that his friend was happy and that it was so easily to make him smile - just stealing the attic key. Blind liked to hear Leaper's smile most of all. And now, when there were no other sounds around, only their breathing, his smile was especially palpably.
"Hey, what do the clouds look like? The sky? The moon?"
"Oh, the sky, it is so vast and blue-blue. And now it's lilac like the blueberry yogurt. The clouds are like huge cotton balls. Though these are more like feathers or brush strokes ..."
More than anything, the Blind wanted to imagine what the Leaper was talking about.
"You said that you can make dreams come true?"
Gray man grinned. Oh, this naive little boy who wants to make his blind friend happy so much that he is almost blind too. How else he could explain that the Leaper didn't see that he shouldn't have any deals with people like Gray.
"Yes, I can, little boy. I can do a lot of things. So what do you want?"
"Not me, the Blind. It’s so dishonest that we can see the sky, stars, grasshoppers in the grass when he can see only darkness."
"I hope you understand that it's not so easy to make a blind person see. But I can try. You have to wait a little while everything is ready."
Blind had been tormenting his imagination all day long. He's been trying to imagine what the sun looks like, the chair on which he was sitting during classes, the food in the canteen, people passing by.
After classes, Leaper dragged him into the school toilet.
"I have something for you."
Blind puzzled twisted a glass vial in his hands. It had very strange sweetish smell. If he could see, he would see a little glass bottle filled with lilac-white liquid.
"Gray said it might help you to see. He isn't sure about it, but I believe."
The boy shook the bottle with a trembling hand and took a sip. After all, what could be worse that it is now?
"Well, what is it?" - he heard an excited whisper.
"Nothing" - only Blind managed to answer, when suddenly the world exploded with bright colors.
There was no longer darkness around him, but the colored spots spun and jumped from place to place so quickly that the boy felt dizzy. The glass clanged to the floor when the Blind fell lose consciousness.
When he woke up, there was darkness around again. It was warm and familiar, unlike that spots he'd seen. Boy's head was very sore, and he was thirsty.
"Hey, how are you?"
Leaper crouched beside him and touched his hand.
"You was laying here for about an hour, I already started to worry." - he fell silent. "Sorry. I wanted the best. I thought it would help ..."
"Well, at least I saw the colors. Yellow, red and blue. It’s not your fault that I didn’t like them. " Blind smiled. Most of all, Leaper's care made him happy.
That night he saw his first dream. There were no bright colors in it. He swam across the lake and milky lilac water touched his hands. The boy had no idea whose dream it was, but from that night on he started having dreams. And it was always something lilac.
