No More Stephans in my Life by Ilariya

Oh, my head. I shouldn’t have
drunk so much yesterday. But I got a really tough month so when my friend Mary came to me and said that we were going to the club, I just couldn’t say no. Suddenly someone rang the doorbell. There was without exaggeration the most handsome man I had ever met. That’s right, I met him yesterday in the club. He was so charming, and we drank and danced a lot.
“Hi,” he said.“How are you? I helped you yesterday to get home and decided to find out how you are and bring you some food”.
Oh, my God, he was so sweet, I think it’s possible to fall in love just with his smile.
“Oh thanks for that,” I said, “I usually don’t drink so much, please don’t think bad of me, but I don’t remember your name.”
“Actually I didn't mention it yesterday,” answered he with a smile
‘’My name is Stephan.”
I was completely shocked “It can’t be true,” I exclaimed  and smashed the door right before his face. I run from the back door to my car and immediately started from the place.
I went right to Mary’s place. “How could you let me go with some unknown guy yesterday?'.
“Hey, calm down.” Said Mary doing her nails.
“You were really persuasive, and you said that you love each other unconditionally.”
“I will never drink again,” I said. I was so embarrassed.
“Hey, Nat, why are you here in pyjamas?” asked Mary looking up from her nails.
“That guy came to my house this morning.”
“Did he try to do anything with you?” asked Mary emotionally.
“No, no, nothing like that,” answered I rapidly.
“Actually he was really sweet, he took some food with him.”
Mary raised her perfect eyebrows and asked: “Then what's wrong?”
“His name is Stephan,” I said with all sadness of the world in my voice.
“Oh, then you can take something from my clothes and go to work” After a pause Mary said.
But When I came to my place of work, Stephan was there.
“How did he know where I worked?" I quietly mumbled. And while I was thinking about how he happened to be there, He noticed me and came to me before I could hide.
“Here are your keys,” he said, putting keys in my hand “you forgot to lock the door. And if you don’t want to talk to me, you should have just told me. Why did you run away?”
“That’s because you are Stephan,” I said hysterically.
Stephan was baffled.
“I am not lucky with Stephans. I dated with four men named Stephan. I was in love with the first one for 5 years with no returned love. The second one ran away with all my money, the third one, it turned out, was married and had three children, what’s a coincidence, And the fourth was having an affair. So I don’t want any Stephans in my life anymore,” I finished and felt myself calmer.
“Don’t judge everyone by one?” he said with a smile.
“Not one, four, Can’t you count?”
“It doesn’t matter,” he said.“Let’s have dinner.”
I was confused.
“No” I shouted and then noticed my colleague “Hey wait,” I shouted to him and run away from Stephan not listening to what he was trying to tell me.
After that conversation, I thought I wouldn’t hear from Stephan anymore.
But the next morning came a delivery guy with enormous bouquet and a card in it saying “I am still interested in dinner – S.” And a phone number. And the next day was another one and one more. Every morning the delivery guy was coming with a new bouquet, and there were not only flowers. There were also pancakes, chocolate, once perfume was delivered. Stephan seemed to be a persistent guy.
“Look, this one seems to be sincere,” Mary said looking on my room with flowers on every possible surface.
“No, don’t you remember? The second Stephan was paying attention to me for a mouth and then he ran away with all my money,” I said, but actually, I started to doubt in my decision to have no Stephan in my life anymore, maybe he is not like that four?
And then suddenly one day flowers didn’t come.
“That’s for good,” I said, “He finally leaves me alone.”
“Nut maybe something happened to him?” I asked Mary.
“Don’t you have his phone number?” she said and grabbed one of the cards that were coming with flowers. Mary entered the number and after a while said “He is ill. ”
She caught my sight and added “It was obvious from his “hello”, such a voice can have an only old guy who smoked all his life or an ill person”.
I grabbed the phone and called the same number again, “Tell me your address,” I said.
“Why..,” Stephan responded weakly .
“Just tell me your address.”
After getting the answer I sat in the car and went to the pharmacy where I bought everything that could help to deal with a cold.
“What’s temperature,” I said right the moment Stephan opened the door. He looked really sick and was so tired that it was hard for him even to talk.
I made him tea and gave some medicine. We were sitting on his kitchen drinking tea.
“We can have a dinner when you feel yourself better,” I said trying not to look on him.
“I probably having hallucinations” he mumbled.
We were sitting in a silence for a while.
“You know, I forgot to tell you something,” he said with thoughtful voice.
“My granddad was from Norway, so my mum called me in his honour Stellan, but everyone was asking about the name so I was using name Stephan and hadn't used my real name since school.”
For a few seconds I lost my voice and then I laughed, “You should have told that earlier, but now we definitely should go on a date.”
