Father by Olena Asatryan

A father had a tough time trying to explain the terror attacks to his child.
- The journalist would like to know what you think about what happened last week with the bad guys who killed the good guys. What do you think?

- I think that flowers attack guns.
The boy answers very softly.
- Oh yes?
- “nodding”
- And what else do you think?
- What else? I like when the flowers kill the bad guys.
- Ok.
- And I also like when the good guys are all alive.
- Ok. And what do you think about the people who died?
- I think that I am sad.
Dropping his eyes.
- Are you sad for them?
Nodding and still dropping his eyes
- Why?
- Because for me I don’t want the good guys to be dead, because the good guys are good.
- Do you want to stay at France?
- I want to move to a new house very, very far away so that the bad guys don’t kill us.
- France is our country. You shouldn’t be worried, dad is here.
The boy looks at his father with uneasiness.
- They will kill you. First they will kill you.
- But no. Why?
- Well. Because in fact the bad guys, they can make us dead with their guns.
- Yes, but we have flowers like I said last time.
- Yes, but there are no flowers around here.
- He-he, you are very brave and very smart.
