Two Dimensions by Alisa Pyaskovska

Jane was brought up by her aunt in a little village.
She spent seventeen years, eating the same food, doing the same things and communicating with the same people. The only thing that could entertain her – books. She loved reading them. Even though their library was tiny and had poor choice of reading, she swallowed every book that happen to get in her hands.
She read at lessons, she read during breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was even a period of time when her aunt was worried about her health, so much she read. Time passed and Jane became one of the brightest students in village. Her passion in books helped her pass the exam and get into biggest university in country. She already knew who she would be. She was writing a novel since high school and knew that until the end of university she would be a young published author of a bestseller book. Her childhood dream became true – she was successful and full of joy and excitement. The only sadness she always had in her life was the absence of her parents, who died when she was just a baby. She hoped that they could see her growing up a smart and kind girl from the skies.
She was happy not knowing about her life in another dimension. In this world she also was brought up by her aunt and lived without parents almost all her conscious life, however they died when she was seven... And she was there. She knew what happened to them and she was not just a victim of a crime. She was also a witness. Three years after her parents’ murder she spent being in court and telling to the judge and attorney the scene of crime she saw. She also visited psychologist and lived in a city for a while. She and her aunt lived in never-ending fear of being haunted by murderers, by being found…
At the age of sixteen, having read a pile of books about crime and detectives, she has made a decision to solve the mystery and to find murderers on her own. She already learned that nobody would really try to do that because of lack of motivation. She was the one with motivation and she was going to devote her life to this case. In ten years, she became a bright young detective, who was like a godsend to police. She solved tons of extremely difficult cases in her career... But she never solved the one that was important to her.
