Subway by Danylo Klochko

Recently, when I was in the subway, I noticed a guy, who was sitting opposite to me.
What got my attention was his appearance. His head was shaved, except for the top, where his hair was bright orange. He had strange-looking earrings in both of his earlobes and his ears were shut by the tiny headphones, connected to his mobile phone. Also he was wearing glasses with wide black frame. His coat is not easy to describe, as all the colors on it linked and mixed in the various and unpredictable ways. His blue jeans were torn on the knees – it’s hard for me to say whether they were sold in this condition or were torn by their owner on purpose. Finally he had dark sandals under which he was wearing green socks with white stripes.
As I looked at him, he was watching something on his phone. Whatever that was – an interesting film or another episode of his favorite TV series, probably even animated – it had his complete, undivided attention. I left the subway before him, but I wouldn’t be surprised had I found that he missed his station - maybe even several times.
Since I had nothing to do at that moment, I began to wonder why this guy has such appearance. My experience led me to the conclusion that he was a student of some theatrical college or – alternatively – was studying at some prestigious university on humanitarian faculty while playing in some music band or being an artist in his free time. One way or another he definitely considered himself to be an artistic person – one standing out from the faceless crowd. And of course he wanted to prove it to all around him, regardless of their actual interest. What is most ironic about such “one of their kind” people that their numbers keep growing quickly turning themselves into the crowd without personality.
