cut the silence.
“You are what?” he turned to her arching his eyebrows.
She noticed fear in his dark eyes.
“I know it`s not a suitable time for this, but…”
“It`s not suitable a time?” he emphasized the word “suitable” “Honey, have you lost your mind?”
She closed her eyes and felt a hot droplet running down her cheek.
“You have to get rid of it” he said it suddenly and bluntly.
“But… How can you…“ She couldn`t believe her ears “How can you say this awful words? It`s our baby!”
“On this ship…”
“I want to save its life!” she interrupted him saying it strictly.
“Listen to me!” he cut the distance between them with one step and touched her shoulders “On this ship this baby will not live and you know it.”
She angrily looked away.
“If this child is born” continued he “Your life will be the price for it. I won`t let you die.”
“And you`d better let our unborn child die then, ha?!” she burst into anger.
“Abigail, please, listen to me! I am trying to have a cool head right now. I`m trying to keep you out of the troubles!”
Her eyes were full with anger and objection. She looked at him and made a deep breath showing she was calming down.
“As soon as the Commander knows about your pregnancy, he will punish you, likewise he punished Lily. Do you remember Lily?”
Abigail`s face pulled at once. She clearly remembered that story and her heart missed a beat. Her eyes filled with tears.
“But… We can… We can hide it, right? The baby can be our secret. Nobody will know!” she was barely crying.
“What are you talking about? It`s not a thing to hide under the pillow. It is a baby!”
She busted into tears.
“It is alive. It will scream and cry. It will need special feeding and whatever else… Even if we hide this baby, this won`t be the best life for him. You want him to live like an animal in a cage? Without permission to go anywhere he wants, meet other people, play with other children…”
“Stop it!” she cried harder and step aside, covering her face with palms.
The silence came then. He could just hear her crying and his heart beating. He slowly walked up behind Abigail and hugged her. He had nothing else to do to help.
“You have to get rid of it till it isn`t too late” he whispered.
“No” she cried lowering her head “No, no, it can`t be real, I can`t… I just can`t!” she didn`t feel her legs and breath. Something just got broke inside her soul. “I hate this ship. I hate it with all my heart. I hate everything about this ship!” her whispering turned into screaming. “I hate it!”
“Allison, please, calm down. Someone can hear you” he tried to hug her as if it would help to stop her pain.
“I don`t care!” she crossly got out of his hugs “I just want to have a baby. Our life is a shit, if we have to kill our child for the stupid rules of this damn spaceship!” he was watching her unstoppable tears and was about to cry himself “We even don`t know will we ever return back home on the Earth again. We can die in this stupid space, die alone, can you understand? What`s the point of our lives then?”
“Listen…” he came up to her and put his hands on her cheeks “You are the point of my life, okay? I will try to do anything possible to make you happy. We will return back home and you will bring me lots of children” he looked in her red eyes “I love you. Do you believe me?”
She tried to stop her tears, screwing up her eyes. She was speechless now, and the only thing she was able to do was hug him.
“Everything will be alright, I promise. We will be happy”
“We are happy now” Abigail tried to smile.
