The Violin Lessons by Elizaveta Groza

The reception at mister Parison`s house
was organized at the highest level. This man definitely hadn`t economized. Twenty dip glass bowls filled with black and red caviar, French baguettes, pineapples, coconut meat, silver cutlery, china dishes, seven waiters, live music and even a chocolate fountain were screaming about the enormous quantity of money Charley Parison had spent on this celebration. The guests were invited from all over the town. Everyone seemed to enjoy this evening.
Ladies were wearing luxurious dresses and high fantastic hairdos. They were standing in the small circles blabbering about something boring. If watching them all together, their hairdos could seem to be like a kind of the weapon in a fight for the title of “The best housewife”. Their husbands were smoking cigars at the balcony. Being shrouded in smoke, they were talking about their annoying wives, discussing each other`s mistresses and chuckling.
Daniel Jeckins and Elizabeth Finnie happened to meet in the hall. As soon as she had noticed him, her face became pale. She made a fitful inhale.
“Mister Jeckins, good evening, sir” - sounded her trembling voice.
She wanted to give him a hug, but her body became leaden.
He gingerly looked around. There were too much people in here.
“Good evening, Miss Elizabeth (Hi, my sweetheart)” – the wrinkles near his mouth became more outlined in a softly smile. – “Hope, you are in the great health (You look so beautiful today)”
“Thank you for your care, I am fine (This reception is so boring, my God, I am almost dead). - She rubbed her palms – My mother wanted me to join this enjoyable event (…but I would rather join you in a walking)”
“Hope you are having a great time in here (Do you really think this reception is so excited? Don`t lie! Your eyes are telling me the other point of view. I indeed would have shown you how to spend this evening in a really awesome way)”
“I am indeed” – exhaled Elizabeth and cleared her throat – “The evening is great (…now for I can see you)”.
There was a direct eye contact between them. She held her breath. He wanted to take her arm, but held his passion back. Elizabeth found herself frankly staring at Daniel. His eyes and lips were dope for her. She felt her heart freeze with fear.
Daniel noticed Elizabeth`s mother coming around and immediately straightened up.
“Have you tasted those tartlets with salmon? (Stop staring at me, your mum is here!)” – asked he.
“So, I see you are having a great conversation” – sounded the woman`s voice.
“Mother!” – Elizabeth pushed the speech out, blinking too much - “Glad to see you (Why are you here? You have to be into one of those stupid circles and blab about whatever)” – They exchanged hugs – “We were talking about…”
“The dishes” – finished Daniel and looked at Elizabeth – “(Behave as usual, honey) Mister Pirson tried to do his best in choosing the food for the reception, and I think he got the luck. The dishes are very delicious. Don`t you think, Miss Elizabeth?”
“Yes, of course I do (What are you talking about?)”
“Have you tasted those incredible tartlets with salmon, Missis Finnie?” – asked Daniel.
Elizabeth couldn`t hold back her chuckle.
“Yes, I have” – came the answer – “And I am totally agreed with you, mister Jeckins. They are so tasty!”
Missis Barbara Finnie made a sip of champagne from the glass she was holding in her hand.
“Mister Jeckins, could you please tell me when will Elizabeth`s violin lessons be continued?” – asked she.
Elizabeth and Daniel exchanged timid glances.
“You haven`t visited our house for already two weeks – was talking Barbara – I think my daughter shouldn`t be given such a long period of break. If she doesn`t have a meeting with you for even longer, she can forget everything you`ve already taught her, and you will have to start all over”
“Mother, I think your worries are surplus” (Are you consider me to be a stupid child?)
“Missis Finnie, of course we will restore our meeting with Elizabeth (Doesn`t have a meeting with me for even longer? Oh, come on! Your daughter and I meet almost every night). I will try to finish all my deeds as soon as possible” – answered Daniel, lowering his head to show respect. – “And I will return to the violin play practice with your daughter (And to not only that, maybe)”
“That would be great, thank you! – off screamed Barbara, clapped her hands. - Elizabeth likes you lessons so much, do you, my durling?”
“Yes, mother, of course I do (I like the teacher more, actually)”
Daniel smiled.
“Oh, I see Gorge there! George!” – off screamed Missis Finnie and disappeared in the crowd.
“Would you excuse me, Miss Elizabeth, I have to leave you too. Today is such a warm evening, I would like to walk in the garden (Count to ten and follow me)”
“Of course, see you! (…tonight in my bed)”
Daniel smiled, nod and went towards the front door.
