“Can you replay one more time, darling?”
Jenn asked husband. They were sitting in the middle of the day, on the park bench. Birds were singing. Nevertheless, not for her. She was trying so hard to understand, what Kurt told her, but she failed every time. Jenn was deaf and now practiced «leap reading». She had no idea, what her husband was talking about right now. It could be anything, starting from peace in whole world, and ending with people, killing each other.
Probably you will be surprised with the fact, that Jenn was not deaf from the birth. That cruel and mystical occasion came to her life, like morning alarm crashes into your sweetest dreams. She was only 21, when she became absolutely deaf (some of the readers can blame me for using this two words together, buy I`m sure that there is absolutes in such things. f.e. there can be such darkness where you can see even black cat, but sometimes – absolutely darkness). Others in her situation would rather stop living at all, but it was not about Jenn. She was strong and brave, and one extremely precious person was her number one reason to live – husband.
After a small park walking Jenn and Kurt ride to the hospital. It was her regular weekly ritual. The doctor was a friend of her husband. He was the first, who find the problem with her hearing. It is interesting to notice, that back then Jenn never felt anything wrong with her ears. However, as doctor said ‘if we did not start the treatment, it would end up worse’. Every week new medicines appear and appear in long list. Every month her health become worse.
However, this meeting was not as usual. Jenn was trying to read on their lips what they are talking about. “Death; you right; it only few month left; this pills; kill her faster”… That’s main what she understood from their dialogue. Of course, they were sure that she doesn’t hear and know anything.
You cannot say for sure, what exactly moved Jenn this day. Maybe it was new pills for her “mental health”. However, she was too suppressed to ponder about her plans. Kurt was sitting in the chair, and she waited a little bit, when he started to talk to her, (she saw his face in the mirror, while walking closer to him). In few seconds happened that had to happen. If Jenn was not deaf, there will be some sentence like “after a loud bang of sound in the air was dead silence”. However, there is not. Only one question hung in the air. “Can you replay one more time, darling?”
