It’s Hard to Believe They are Relatives! by Ilariya

I can’t believe it!
They are a brother and a sister! Unbelievable!
Mike is my friend from college. We were roommates, so I managed to become his friend. He doesn’t have many. I am not even sure he thinks about me as a friend. But I am not going asking.
With Kate, I met in a coffee shop near my job. The room was full, and she asked to join me at the table. And we spent almost an hour talking about a new movie she just watched.
And know it turned out that they are relatives! Well, they half brother and sister. And they are leaving together! Actually, I knew that. Not that they are connected But about Mike living with his sister.
He told me she was kicked out of her last apartment because she was forgetting paying her bills for two months and then lost the money she supposed to pay for an apartment because of some obvious phone fraud, and asked to live with him while she is looking for a new one. And now I have been listening about how she pissed him off for almost two weeks.
It’s not so easy to irritate Mike. He is a really cold-blooded person. Sometimes I question myself why I am even friends with this heartless bastard. He is a boss in the company and he fires people even for the tiniest mistake. None of the tears and begging can change his mind. Once a kitten came to him when he was eating a sandwich and he didn’t share! He said that if people will feed it, it will never learn to find food by itself.
So actually it was funny to watch him being so shaken off by his sister.
Five days ago, Mike returned home and saw the doors weren't locked. As turned out, Kate went to a local store and decided not to lock the door, as all the neighbours were really nice and so it would be easier to open the door. For my friend, it was almost a crime. Mike has eight locks on the door, which he closes in a specific order so it would be harder to pick the lock. Mike also has a lock on the door in his room. And none of the neighbours has a spare key. I had to listen for two hours about how horrible and irresponsible his sister is, and how you can’t trust people.
But it’s kinda working. I mean them leaving together. Mike become much easier to deal with. And for Kate is also probably for good. I know that Mike helped her with her taxes, girl totally helpless with money. That something old Mike never would do.
And still, I can't believe they are relatives!
