His Train Arrived by Kseniia Rybak

He felt the world around him slow down.
The kids at the square were laughing loudly squealing enjoying the morning sun. Old ladies talked about usual ordinary things not feeling he`s looking at them. He felt every move they make, every gesture, every jump. He went down the small stairs to the station, why didn`t they made a longer one? He knew, there would be no time to wait, he must act fast. They`ll give his family a large sum of money. No one will know his name. He never wished his kids to have that life. Who to blame? Head down, eyes down, scared to look into the world`s eyes facing the reality he was going to create. The vest squeezed his rib cage and pulled him down. “It would really hurt” he thought.
The train stopped. The crowd dispersed in different directions. Surrounding him at one moment they suddenly spread evaporating. They reminded him helium`s molecules. He liked to watch chemical reactions; he remembered he discovered this at school. It was always his favorite lesson, he dreamed to study chemistry at the university but the life is not always you want it to be like. He didn`t want his children feel the same. He tried not to think too much. He could not think straight any more. Time stood still for a long while. In chaos of his brain he decided: “It would be the next one. I`ll enter”. The next train arrived and crowd pulled the same way. It seemed the same, but he knew it was not, the people were different. He accidentally met eyes of young girl which was running off. “Don`t think. One, two, three”. He tried to count to focus his thought, his last thoughts. “Whose fault is this? Are all of this innocent people guilty?”.
His train arrived. He had no time to wait.
