The newlyweds were happy and light-hearted. Their minivan confidently rushed along the highway in the direction of the South, when a counter driven car, which appeared from nowhere, smashed them at a tremendous speed and disappeared in an unknown route.
It was one month ago when the calm of Madeline Street was broken by an incredibly loud quarrel that took place in one of the houses. Stephen and Lily were breaking up.
Tell me the truth! You cheated on me, Lily! I knew from the beginning that I cannot trust you, - he was screaming out loud.
Oh my God, Stephen, you don`t even hear me! It was your unreasonable quick temper and your endless bouts of jealousy that drove me crazy! Our divorcement is just your fault, - Lily was sobbing violently.
Take your frigging stuff and get out of my house! I don`t want to listen to your miserable excuses, - he said brutally picking all her clothes and throwing into the yard. – I hope you will not be happy.
One week after Stephen decided to stop the war and suggest Lily to start over again. He bought the bouquet of yellow tulips forgetting that her loved ones are white and went to her new rented apartment. On his half way he stopped abruptly to light a cigarette. Making the first puff he raised his head and had a fit of coughing. On the terrace of one of the cafes some man was tenderly speaking to Lily holding her hand.
During the month Stephen constantly watched them trying to choose the right moment for the cruel disclosure of his unfaithful ex-wife. For this month of close surveillance he began to notice how much Lily has changed, ranging from gesticulation and ending with the manner of speaking. Stephen was almost noticed by Lily for several times, but it seemed that she did not know him at all. Finally he decided on the day of reckoning when he saw a happy couple in the wedding shop. Stephen was working out various plans of revenge in order not allowing him to surrender.
The wedding day crept up unnoticeably. Dressed in a dress coat Stephen walked slowly along the embankment scrolling through his head the elaborated plans. In one hand he kept an empty bottle of whiskey and in another - a smoldering cigarette. When he finally approached the square in which the wedding was taking place he grabbed his head desperately. He saw Lily in an elegant dress that emphasized every bend of her body. As soon as he took a step towards her he unexpectedly stumbled for the root of the tree, fell to the ground and lost consciousness. The bottle of whiskey definitely made itself felt.
Stephen came to his senses a few hours later when he had finally got enough drunken sleep. He raised his head and drowsily saw a minivan where Lily was going to sit down. The man gathered all his anger and strength in a fist, ran towards his parked car immediately followed their trail. Stephen was furious. He waited for the right moment for so long and missed it. Approaching the highway to the South he made a circle and went to the opposite lane.
That night their honeymoon began. The newlyweds were happy and light-hearted. Their minivan confidently rushed along the highway in the direction of the South, when a counter driven car, which appeared from nowhere, smashed them at a tremendous speed and disappeared in an unknown route.
Doctors desperately tried to save the girl's life when Stephen desperately tried to forget himself in the endless plurality of glasses of alcohol. He was totally swallowed by suffering and self-loathing. He was lonely and miserable like a man sitting under the doors of the operating room.
Stephen finally decided to go outside two weeks after the funeral. He could hardly look at the light through the swollen eyes out of binge. He could scarcely found a way to a flower shop to buy eight yellow tulips forgetting that Lily`s loved were white. Getting to the cemetery the man went on and on for a long time trying to find his beloved`s grave. Finally, hardly having seen the inscription on the tombstone he slowly approached it and froze in horror. Stephen whispered with a trembling voice: «Lilith Addington. 1990 – 2018». All of a sudden someone called him. He turned his head and saw aged with grief and dressed in all black Lily.
Stephen?! – she cried nervously. – What the hell are you doing on my sister's grave?
The man's eyes filled with tears, and an armful of yellow tulips fell down from his hands.
