It gives some freedom. I do not hang on transport schedules, don`t need to stand in a queue to buy a ticket, I can change the route at any moment, make a stop and so on.
But this time I had to give in to my habits. My car broke down at the most unexpected moment and that's why for the first time in five years I had to go on a business trip on a train.
I went to a neighboring city - Seattle for only a few days, so I did not take a lot of things with me. With me there was only a small suitcase and a laptop bag, in which I also put the phone and money.
So, I arrived at the station with the hope that I could get to the destination without any problems and complications. But as I realized half an hour later, I should not have expected a quiet trip.
My problems started as soon as I got on the train car. In my place was already sitting some man who assured that he also has a ticket to this place. Fortunately, the conductor managed to solve this problem and explained to the man that his ticket was on another train. This man was just too drunk to understand it by himself.
Then a woman who sold magazines in the train came to me and tried to persuade me to buy one. It took me about ten minutes to explain to her that I do not care about the gutter press.
In the next place was a very nice girl. I was happy about this, because I rarely have the opportunity to communicate with women in an informal atmosphere. All my time goes to work and this upsets me. I am thirty-five years old and I have already climbed high up the career ladder, but I could not arrange my personal life. So, I was pleasantly surprised that this girl turned out to be a good companion and an interesting person. She told me that her name was Jessica, she was twenty-eight years old, she was an artist and going to the Seattle , because there was about to start an exhibition of her paintings.
She talked about her works, plans for the future and things that inspire her. Her looks and judgments seemed strange to me. And she seemed to me unusual. Apparently it's because I'm a simple lawyer and it's strange for me that everything goes beyond the routine of everyday life, office suits and boring business meetings. In any case, I was amazed at her positive, love of life and emotionality. It had everything I needed so much in life.
But then, our conversation was interrupted by a dry announcement of the conductor that the train had arrived at the station I wanted. Jessica drove on.
I was terribly upset that I had to say goodbye to my charming companion, but then she said something that made my heart beat faster: «Please take an invitation to my exhibition, I will be very happy if you come»
So, with a smile on my face, an invitation in my hands and a hope for an meeting at heart, I left the train ...
