Gentleman by Liza Chernyavska

The summer park.
The sun was shining, birds were singing and little kids were fooling around.
But the mood of one girl didn't fit this atmosphere at all.
"Why are you crying?" a little boy asked, hunkering down on the grass beside her.
"M-my nanny... n-nanny turned out to be a robot!" she cried, hugging her knees.
The boy glanced in her eyes and asked in confuse:
"Does it matter?"
"Of course, it is!" she exclaimed. "It means she didn't care about me at all! She didn't feel the same way! Didn't feel anything..! And she doesn't love me..."
She burst into tears again.
"...So you ran away?" he said after a while, laying on the grass and taking a look at the sky.
"Of course I did! She lied me all this time!" she mumbled, wiping snot.
"Robots can't lie."
"...How do you  know..?"
"It's a scientific fact. It'd be dangerous if they could."
"Or they just don't feel a need to lie. No feelings - no needs," she angrily grumbled.
Now they both were sitting on the ground and watching the skyline turning red.
"It means tomorrow the weather will be good," he said.
"Do you believe in it?" she mumbled, shivering a little because of a sudden wind.
"I don't know."
The girl sighed, lowering her head, but suddenly raised it up and exclaimed in horror:
"Oh no! My dance classes! I should hurry up or mummy will yell at me... It was a pleasure to meet such a gallant gentleman... Um... Thank you for making me a company! I hope we'll play together one day! I'm Marinette, by the way. A human. A lady," she chuckled in the end.
Marinette tore off a daisy and placed it behind the boy's ear.
"A small gift from a small lady," she smiled sincerely.
He touched a flower, keeping being silent under her expectant gaze.
"And you..?" she definitely was getting mad again.
"...I'm Rob," he said hesitatingly. "Gentle...man... A human."
"Nice to meet you, Rob!" she smiled widely, rose and ran down the hill, where they were sitting.
Suddenly she stopped and looked back.
"See you!" she screamed from the foot of the hill, waved and ran on.
He was waving a few more minutes, when some boys approached him.
"Did you clean everything in third zone... Who are you smiling to?" asked one of them, following his gaze. "You should do it just in the user's presence. Has one of your programs broken down?"
"I don't know," he answered, raising.
The summer park plunged into the twilight.
