I’ve always made a snap decision,
but that one was the most impressive. And ridiculous.
The company, I was working in, started sending out its regular workers on business trips to the other countries about 2 years ago, what was important – the workers were able to choose the destinations by themselves. It was clear, that everybody was waiting for the moment he or she could go on this trip, some people couldn’t even dream about long trips, especially if consider it was paid by the company.
People have never understood the essence of my topographical cretinism. “You might be lost in the three birches,“ – it would be funny if it wasn’t so sad. For me there is always a problem to get to any place on the other side of the city where I must have an interview, or to plan a trip to another city without the constant use of navigator and maps. It doesn’t matter how many times somebody explains me – I don’t orient.
My disorientation reached its top the last winter.
The moment of my triumph became on January. Living in the fast tempo, I completely forgot I must decide where I wanted to travel to, so I just pointed the finger on the map in the determining moment and my choice was city Marble Bar in the “exotic“ county, to make the impression stronger I will say the “continent“ – Australia. I watched a lot of videos about Emu, rabbits, the most poisonous snakes and insects, which Australia was inhabited with, and waited for the moment I could see them by myself. Two hours was enough for me to pack up my suitcase, the vast majority of time I spent choosing a swimsuit among those, which were in the chest of drawers. Funny, I had a swimsuit with kangaroo print. I chose that one and it collapsed in my bag: there was no free space in my suitcase.
I traveled by plane for the second time, and that one wasn’t so fearful, because in the middle of the Ukrainian winter hot Australian summer was waiting for me! The flight seemed a bit quick, but I didn’t care. There was no airport in Marble Bar, so I took a ticket to another city; I planned to get a car there.
The plane arrived; I was already approaching to the exit from the airport, when I began to notice the surprised sights on me. I stopped. I took off the straw hat from my head and looked around. “Am I really strange? Look at them!“ – I thought. Every second stranger, who was walking past and looking at me, was dressed up in fur coat, warm shoes and had long scarf, despite on a fact there was such the heat outside! Oddities. I took up my suitcase, put on the straw hat on my head and looked up at the information board, which was placed on the right of the exit. At first, I thought that the airport system probably broke down, but when my brain rejected everything absurd, impossible became true. I stood before the exit of the airport with straw hat on my head and swimsuit with kangaroo print in my bag, laughing and looking at the information board. I was glad to meet the new country, and I really felt the smell of the ocean and the heat. The information board twinkled with a vivid inscription, the text of which still appears in my memory every time I am at the airport: “Good morning! Welcome to Salzburg. Wish you a wonderful day!“ Austria. Seriously?
